Kevin “Mac” McGovern was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. His parents, Ruth & Jack, were his greatest inspiration and his “North Star” throughout his life. His father was a WWII vet who fought in the Pacific Theater and his mother a homemaker who raised six children in a two bedroom, one bath house. Kevin’s parents and siblings were blessed to have school choice and he attended the local parochial school.

He began his Navy career right out of High School and commenced basic training at the Naval Training Center, in Orlando, Florida. After completion of his avionics class “A” school at Naval Air Station in Memphis, Tennessee, Kevin was designated an Aviation Antisubmarine Warfare Technician. His first fleet assignment was to Commander, Fleet Activities Okinawa, Japan. During his deployment to Okinawa, he volunteered to serve in several operations in support of the Vietnam conflict, including Operation Frequent Wind during the evacuation of Saigon.

After serving 37 months in Japan at the Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department, and being promoted to 2nd Class Petty Officer, Kevin left active duty to pursue an education but remained affiliated with the Navy Reserve. After completion of his B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering, he was employed by Martin Marietta Aerospace as the Electrical Lead Engineer at Vandenberg AFB, CA in support of the Space Shuttle launch complex.

He re-entered active duty after one year to pursue a Navy commission where Kevin received his commission from the Aviation Officer Candidate School, in Pensacola, Florida. Since the attacks of 11 September 2001, Captain McGovern has returned to active duty several times, serving in engineering, acquisition, and operational billets at NAS Pt. Mugu/China Lake, California, NAS Patuxent River, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Kabul, Afghanistan.

Due to his aviation, engineering, and leadership background Kevin was then recruited as the Deputy Director for Production, F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. He led the joint effort between the U.S. and our international partners, the United Kingdom, Italy, Netherlands, Australia, Norway, Denmark, and Canada.

He was then ordered to Kabul, Afghanistan for a 14-month deployment as a Senior Staff Officer to the Commander, International Security Assistance Force, GEN David Petraeus.

Kevin and his wife Maggie are long time Central Florida residents and homeowners. She is a United Airlines Flight Attendant and he is an advocate for veterans rights and volunteers to builds homes with Central Florida Habitat for Humanity. When not busy with his volunteer activities, you will find him at his local airport teaching aviation to the next generation as he holds an FAA Commercial pilot license for both land and sea operations.

As a decorated veteran and successful businessman, Kevin is well suited to lead our nation in Congress. Kevin McGovern has the leadership skills, values, integrity, and experience that it takes to be the next US Congressman from Central Florida.
